Delays
Sometimes delays are good and sometimes not so good! I think delays are what I have been stuck aggravate consumed with lately. The two hour delays because of weather have been great. Only thing bad about it is I get up at 5 am, and the call comes an hour later. No big deal, but an extra hour of sleep would have been appreciated just a little. Bad part, missed planning time. Sitting on the couch doing nothing is a good thing too. Another huge delay I have been really aggravated with is my camera's SD card got stuck. I tried for 2 weeks to wiggle, pry, yank, scream, pray, and wish it out of the camera. No luck! Do you know how many pictures fit on a SD card???????? A lot!!! I mean many years! Not just school, but my family photos too. NYC pictures, birthday pics, fun and silly stuff, and don't forget those photos you wonder why you took. But I wanted them all!!! Finally, I used a leprechauns screw driver to break into my camera. Twenty-three pieces and eight mini screws later, I got the SD card out!!! Go me!!! I guess I could share some of the photos I planned on uploading, but they seem so old. Maybe another delay and I will. I need to go get ready for this delightfully delayed day.

Chicks
This will be my sixth year getting to hatch chicks with my students. It is probably the best thing we get to do in second grade. They become "egg-perts" in just a few days. Our County Extension Office provides all the materials including the eggs, incubator, candlers, and other supplies. It is a great experience! I made a few things to go along with the 21 day process. I know many of you get to experience embryology too.
Chop Stick Fun
Yesterday we celebrated Chinese New Year. A while back I posted about what I was planning to do.
Check out this post. I decided to let the kids try out their chopsticks by cooking rice. I was planning to just cut up yarn, but then I thought they would enjoy it more be actually eating rice! They loved it. This was such a fun and CHEAP activity. Thanks to PF Changs for the chopsticks and fortune cookies. I spent $2 on rice, and they all loved it!!!!

Science Fair, 100 Days, and Giveaway
Here is a a quick picture review of somethings from my week.
Our school science fair is coming up soon. We decided to try and figure out which works better, mittens or gloves? We had a ball with this.

Getting everything ready!
Holding the chocolate in our mittens and gloves.
The results of the chocolate in our palms for 5 minutes.
Completed project!
Valentine's Day and 100's Day combined into one adorable bulletin board. I saw something similar on a blog and don't remember which one (if it was your let me know so I can give you credit). I think it turned out to be pretty cute.
Are you ready for one AWESOME giveaway?!?! I am teaming up with Taming My Flock of Firsties for My Winter Blues Giveaway. I am giving away a copy of my St. Patrick's Day Literacy Activities.

Answered Prayers and Criticial Thinking
Answered Prayers!
I just heard a little bit ago the five year old boy, Ethan, that has been held hostage in Midland City, Alabama has been safely returned to his family. I can only imagine the joy the family had when they go to see, hug, and hold their little boy. Many prayers have been said for this boy, his family, the bus driver and his family, and all the kids on the bus last week. I plan to keep them all in my prayers in the future as healing begins for them.
Critical Thinking
Yep, I could not transition at all, so the not so cute little line will have to do. Today, I went to UNC Greensboro for a workshop on Critical Thinking and Revised Bloom's Taxonomy. It was a workshop through PTEC. Well all I can say is... I am done thinking for one day. Yes, a Monday and critical thinking skills being used at 8:30 am. UUUGGGHHHH! is what I was thinking. In the end, I learned a lot. Remembered I was doing many of these things already, and am ready to dive into more thought proving lessons in my class tomorrow. Sometimes a good review and fresh ideas are something we need. But next time, maybe a Monday workshop is not best. :)
